Name: Rock & Ice Climbing Club

History: The UNB Rock and Ice Climbing Club was established to offer students an opportunity to learn and practice the sport of climbing.
'Activities': Each year the club hosts a two-day instructional weekend for rock climbing in the Fall, and ice climbing in January, as well as weekend trips to a variety of climbing locations around the province. The Club participates in an annual international film festival, and hosts private events, birthday parties, school groups, and community outreach programs at their facilities on campus.
Note(s): The UNB indoor rock climbing wall, located on the lower level of the Lady Beaverbrook Gym, was funded by the family of a local climber, Ian MacDonald, who was killed while climbing in Western Canada. The facility is equipped with safety gear approved by the sports regulating body, and is monitored by experienced club volunteers, to provide a safe and comfortable environment for climbers to learn and practice the sport.
