Stephen Michael Sloan

Life Before UNB

Stephen Sloan graduated from the University of Toronto Mississauga (then known as Erindale College) with a B.A. in English Literature.  He then moved on to the University of Western Ontario (now Western University) for an MLIS degree in 1979.  Post-graduation, he moved to Fort McMurry, working for the Fort McMurray Public Libraary and Syncrude Canada.


Work at UNB

In 1988, Stephen Sloan was hired as a Librarian in the Engineering Library.  Within a a couple of years, the microcomputer revolution overtook UNB and the Library system and he moved to Harriet Irving Library to take on transitioning to the new environment.  His entusiasm eventually led him to pply for a Futures Fund grant.  With this he requested the purchase of a UNIX computer.  Usng this platform, Sloan established UNB's World Wide Web service, regarded as the first such installation at a Canadian university.
