History: The UNB Scientific Society was established in 1931 under the guidance of Professor C. W. Argue of the Department of Biology. Initial membership included Dr. C. C. Jones as Honorary President, professors from the Faculty of Science, senior students in the Bachelor of Science program, and Honours students in scientific studies, while Junior and Sophomore students were allowed to attend without voting priveledges. Membership to this society also included cetain Fredericton residents unconnected with the University.
The principle objectives of the Society were to raise the standard of scientific work conducted at the University by increasing co-operation between departments and to expose students to current research in the physical sciences.
