Established: 1992 under the direction of Richard Hornsby. It grew out of and expanded upon UNB’s Resident Musician Program which continued until 1993.
History: The first mention of music in university literature was in 1958 when the Chancellor, Lord Beaverbrook, supplied instruments to a program run by the director of the Band which performed at university functions.
The UNB Centre for Musical Arts presently offers credit and non credit courses, practice facilities, instruments for student use, a Concert series, a Young Musician’s Program, and a Summer Music Camp and an affiliated professional Music Festival (New Brunswick Summer Music Festival). It also has many ensembles that are available to students such as the Concert Choir, and instrumental ensembles (concert band, brass ensemble, flute choir, and jazz band), as well as the Musician-in-Residence program.
