Chapman Field was named for Dr. R. H. Chapman, educator, first director of teacher training (1953-1966) and chief county superintendent of schools (1957-1966). The first sport field associated with the Teachers' College became the site of the Aitken Centre, so the adjacent property was designated as the main sports field and the Chapman name was retained. The field is part of the BMO Centre.
