Name: UNB/STU Rowing Club

Previous/other names: N/A

Prominent date(s) of activity: 2011 - present

History: The UNB Rowing Club is affiliated with the Fredericton Rowing Club, which was established in 1975 to give citizens of Fredericton the opportunity to practice the sport of rowing at a variety of levels. An unofficial UNB-STU rowing team was formed in the 1980s, competing in National Championships using equipment borrowed from the Fredericton Rowing Club, but no official club was affiliated with UNB or STU until 2011.

'Activities': The unofficial UNB-STU rowing team practiced at dusk and dawn five days per week, and performed weight training exercises in the afternoons. They competed in the Canadian Championships each year, taking home four wins by 1987.

Note(s): Canadian Gold Medalist in Rowing, Roger Jackson, deemed the section of the Saint John River flowing through the City of Fredericton to be "an ideal location for recreational rowing, (with) the physical setting to make the best competitive rowing course in the Atlantic region and the potential for National and International regattas equal to St. Catharine's Henley Regatta."
