John Steffler
John Steffler was UNB’s twenty-first writer-in-residence for the 2001-2002 academic year. John Steffler holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto, and a master of arts from the University of Guelph. Steffler had previously taught at the Banff festival for the Arts and UNB's Maritimes writers’ workshop. Additionally, he taught English at Memorial University in Newfoundland. His residency was funded by Arts Board of New Brunswick, UNB, as well as the Canada Council. Steffler provided a reading on September 26 in Memorial Hall.
His first novel, The Afterlife of George Cartwright, won the Smithbooks/Books in Canada First Novel Award and the Thomas Randall Award.
John Steffler was preceded by George Fetherling and succeeded by Anne Simpson.
