George Fetherling
Douglas George Fetherling was UNB’s twentieth writer-in-residence for the 2000-2001 academic year. He was born in West Virginia, US, on January 1, 1949, but left the US as a young teenager due to his claim of being "disillusioned all the more by the war going on at the time and especially by the abiding racism." He took up writing due to a speech impediment which left him severly debilitated. He held a previous writer-in-residence position at Queen’s University in 1993, and was a contributing editor for a number of magazines, including Quill and Quire and Toronto Life. Fetherling held a reading in the Alumni Memorial Lounge on September 26.
George Fetherling was preceded by Colleen Wagner and succeeded by John Steffler.
