Carol Malyon was the University of New Brunswick's sixteenth writer-in-residence during the 1997 fall school year. Malyon has a diploma in nursing, and later recieved a BScN from the University of Toronto. Working in health research, Malyon always planned to have her own bookstore - in 1984 she owned and managed Beaches Books Shop in Toronto. She ran this store as a mostly literary bookstore, and organized/hosted the Beaches Book Shop reading series there until she left the bookstore behind in 1989. Malyon began writing full time in 1991, and by her 1997 residency at UNB she had already published 5 works. Carol Malyon has conducted a workshop for women writers at George Brown College in Toronto, and returned to Fredericton in 1998 to teach the Maritime Writers' Workshop.

Carol Malyon gave her first reading of her work at the university at Memorial Hall on the 8th of October, 1997.

Malyon was preceded by Kenneth J. Harvey, and succeeded by bill bissett for the second semester of the 1997/1998 academic year.
