John Steffler was UNB’s twentieth writer-in-residence for the 2001-2002 academic year. John Steffler, poet and novelist, holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto, and a master of arts from the University of Guelph. Steffler had previously taught at the Banff festival for the Arts and UNB's Maritimes writers’ workshop. Steffler comes to the University of New Brunswick from Cornerbrook, Newfoundland, where he was a professor of English at Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Memorial University. His first novel, ''The Afterlife of George Cartwright'', won the Smithbooks/Books in Canada First Novel Award and the Thomas Randall Award. It was also shortlisted for the Governor General's Award and the Commonwealth Prize for Best First Book. | |||

John Steffler was UNB’s twentieth writer-in-residence for the 2001-2002 academic year. John Steffler, poet and novelist, holds a bachelor of arts from the University of Toronto, and a master of arts from the University of Guelph. Steffler had previously taught at the Banff festival for the Arts and UNB's Maritimes writers’ workshop.
