Name: The Employment Bureau

Previous/other names: N/A

Prominent date(s) of activity: 1946 - ?

History: The Employment Bureau was a Student-Faculty committee set up to help students procure summer employment. Each faculty at the University had a student and a faculty representative.

Prior to the establishment of the Bureau, job-seeking students depended on a list of employers posted on the bulletin board - the bureau was a reaction to the perception that some students applied for any and all jobs posted on the list, bombarding prospective employers with applications and making it more difficult for qualified students to become employed.

Activities: The bureau interviewed students, providing each student with the names of several employers with suitable available summer jobs demanding the skills of that particular student.
