Significance: Provincial Bicentennial

Summary of event: Her Majesty the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh visited the city of Fredericton on Tuesday, 25 September 1984. Their visit to Fredericton was an all-day event to celebrate the provincial bicentennial and included a visit to the University of New Brunswick Fredericton campus. They were served lunch at McConnell Hall. They were greeted by UNB President James Downey and Mrs. Downey. During the luncheon, Premier Hatfield presented the speaker of the Legislative Assembly and other guests. The Royal Anthem was played by the New Brunswick String Quartet and Archbishop Nutter said grace. After dessert, there was a Loyal Toast proposed by Premier Hatfield. The Royal couple left UNB at 2:50 by car.

Notes: The Royal couple arrived in Moncton on 24 September, 1984 and their visit lasted three days, focusing on Moncton, Shediac, Riverview, Sackville, and Fredericton. The visit was written about in the Daily Gleaner on 24 September 1984, the Telegraph Journal on 24 September 1984, and in the Brunswickan on 28 September 1984.
