History: Badminton was first introduced to the UNB sports community in the early 1930s. In 1931 the first tournament at UNB was held, for both men and women’s. It is unclear if non-UNB students were permitted to enter this tournament. In 1932 UNB students were known to have played against city and church clubs.

With the erection of the Lady Beaverbrook Gymnasium, and the badminton courts available there, a renewed interest in Badminton caused the formation of the Students Badminton Club in 1942. The club entered tournaments held in the city as well as held tournaments on campus, hosting city and church clubs.
