She served as the only Writer-in-Residence at UNBSJ from 2008 to 2010, and has been a member of the Board of the Lorenzo Society Reading Series. In 2008, Dr. Compton won the Alden Nowlan Award for Excellence in the Literary Arts, as well as a National Magazine Award in Poetry. That same year she also won the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Faculty of Arts at UNB Saint John and the Excellence in Teaching Award for the Department of Humanities and Languages, also at UNB Saint John.
